Venison Season Report

I regret that there are no photos of the very successful venison season in Elk County. It seems that the Chief forgot his camera! I have a few photos of an earlier trip. The Chief, Pop, and the Fair Maiden shared hunting out of a Double Bull Matrix 360 blind in an 100 year old apple orchard. Deer were coming into the orchard every evening since early September to feast on the tasty apples and pears.

The Fair Maiden was the first to bag a fatted doe on the first evening of the early muzzleloader season. She has been successful for three seasons now with the muzzleloader. Pop turned 86 on October 21 and after a snowy morning, shot his fatted doe with a crossbow at an incredible 8 yards under the apple tree. Pop had hunted in that same tree forty years ago. Pop had a huge 8 point come in and feed under the apple tree after hours on Monday. Being a true sportsman, he let it live another day. We had other smaller bucks skirt the blind on several evenings but let them live for another day. The Chief caught a fatted doe in its bed while still hunting on Thursday and finally claimed his bologna fixings and tenderloin for the 3rd Annual RBF's Christmas Fishing Gathering.

Earlier in October, The Chief and the Fair Maiden found two beautiful sheepshead mushrooms near the old orchard. They will become the main ingredient in the wild mushroom soup that will be served at the Christmas Fishing Gathering.

RBF's 3rd Annual Christmas Fishing Gathering

Chief, Goose, Dave and Agrontrutta enjoying egg nog last year

This year's gathering will be held on December 20th.
We will meet at the Waffle Shop in Bellefonte at 9:oo AM for a hearty breakfast then head to the Paradise for a day's fishing. Then after our fingers freeze solid we will gather in the parking lot to enjoy Wild Mushroom Soup (this year's version will feature sheepshead and sulphur mushrooms), Cast Iron Skillet Venison Tenderloin Medallions and RBF's Famous Jack Daniel's Egg Nog. There will also be plenty of Christmas Cookies and Camp Coffee. Come and enjoy some good fellowship, fine food and some winter fishing!
