I'm Dreaming of Baetis

Days are slowly getting longer here on the northern plains. It plays out first with slightly more light after 5:30 p.m. The dark still hangs around in the morning but after mid February we hit that exponential upswing in daylength.

I'm ready for winter to be over, despite the mild open winter we have had here on the plains. The Sandusky mess has had me in a funk all winter. JoePa's passing weighed heavy on my heart.

I'm dreaming of Baetis. Those harbingers of hatches to come. I'm dreaming of overcast days on Spring and Penn's Creeks in late February and early March when the trout carelessly sip small sailboats of slate and olive. I'm dreaming of Baetis. I'm dreaming of spring.

I'm sure we all have been dreaming, especially here in the Central Mountains. It's been a long, long, yet mild winter. Today we have single digits with blowing snow. Waiting for the arrival of my Tenkara rod. God willing I will be fishing this Spring, possibly left-handed as my shoulder problem has yet to be resolved.

Bowhunter and I may just break this winter funk by attending the Fly Fishing Show in Lancaster next weekend.

Good to hear from you Matt. Good Luck.

Matt,
Great to hear fr0m you. I am dying to get out after the sailboats. But for a little reprieve Chief and I made the trip to the fly show and meet up with Kugler. Did some browsing and visited with Mike Basile who was working one of the vendor booths. The summits just are not the same without your presence.
Carry on and Good Luck

Canceled my Tenkara rod order as I received word that I should be considering shoulder replacement. I'll be there for breakfast and will be a bystander along the stream.

Heard reports of some sail boats being in the area. Guess I'll have to take one for the team and go fishing this weekend.

TU PA State Council has booked Stackhouse for Mar 24-25. We can expect some crowding at Paradise. I suspect I may have a Youth Committee meeting like last year. Think best that we gather at Benner Spring or elsewhere so I can hide. Good Luck

I hope you're right Bowhunter! It's been quite a while since the GOV closed the roads. We need some snow, the creeks are running a bit low.

Keeripes amighty. Sail armada will be all over by 3/24. Things are so early that I fully expect the next emergence of cicadas to jump a few years and show up later this month.

Phil needs his head examined...with a .222
