Obama to Ban Recreational Fishin?

"We are endangering all our little fishies!"

The Chief has refrained from political commentary on this ungodly blog until now. That's it...I ain't gonna take it no mo.

I have enjoyed this blog as an occasional reader. However, you should have continued your refrain on this topic--or at least realized that the ESPN article you link to is nothing more than a fear mongering opinion piece without factual basis. I didn't watch the video, so I appologize in advance if your post is somehow in jest.

Here is the follow-up from ESPN:

"ESPNOutdoors.com inadvertently contributed to a flare-up Tuesday when we posted the latest article in a series of stories on President Barack Obama's newly created Ocean Policy Task Force, a column written by Robert Montgomery, a conservation writer for BASS since 1985. Regrettably, we made several errors in the editing and presentation of this installment."

And Moldy Chum's take: http://www.moldychum.com/home-old/2010/3/10/regrettably-we-made-several-errors-in-the-editing-and-presen.html

Recreational fishing isn't going anywhere.

Austin, I assure you this post is not in jest. I don't trust this radical administration nor should any sportsman. I have read the White House Council on Environmental Quality Interim Report of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force and it scares me.

"Unsustainable fishing (e.g., overfishing) remains a serious concern with consequences for marine ecosystems and human communities."

I suppose you should have watched the video.

No fear mongering here. Just recall how this administration handled the health care bill.

As sportsmen, we have a unique obligation to the stewardship of our natural resources--including our fisheries, marine, and ocean resources. Afterall, fishing and our continued ablity to live as sportsmen would not exist without sustainable management of our fisheries and fish habitat.

I see no evidence that the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force or its Interim Report or Framework is a threat to sport fishing. As the Interim Report notes, our oceans are a mess because of habitat degradation and destruction, poorly managed commercial fisheries, pollution and other serious threats that need to be addressed.

I watched your video of James David Manning. He comes off as crazy and I don't see how the video--or health care, for that matter--is relevant.

Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion in your comment section. I have enjoyed this blog's fishing posts, but cannot understand the sportsman that would catch every last fish or hunt every last animal.

The RBF Pro Staff is a unique cast of characters that are astute stewards of our natural resources. Two members serve on the PA Council of Trout Unlimited, one as President. Several members are active in local watershed associations. One leads a prominent environmental engineering group, another is a wildlife biologist, while another is a world renowned agronomist and author. Yet another is a valuable employee of the PA Fish & Boat Commission, another is the managing editor of a leading gun magazine. Above all, members of the RBF Pro Staff are expert anglers. Two will compete in the America Cup in Colorado later this year, while all the others could catch fish in a sewer.

The Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress are a “threat” to everything American. Beware. Fishery policies should be developed knowledgeable persons, not left-wing environmental groups. The video and passage of the health care bill are quite relevant. That bunch in Washington, D.C. has a complete disregard for the American People.

I assure you that the RBF Pro Staff will not catch every last fish or hunt every last animal. After all, we were promised a guided trip on the Golden Beat. We don’t want to mess with that deal.
